Tips for Protecting Your Skin in Summer

Helpful tips to protect your skin this summer, woman with a white hat at the beach
In the summertime, the days are longer, the breezes are balmy and we simply want to get out of the house to take advantage of the warmer, blissful weather. At the same time, it’s smart to be conscious of all the ways you can and should protect your skin from the sun and premature aging. It’s nice to enjoy the outdoors, but it’s not much fun if that enjoyment comes with a price tag of wrinkles, uneven pigmentation or even skin cancer.

Here’s how you can protect yourself from sun-related aging:

  • When to Seek Shelter: Indulge in direct sunlight before 10 a.m. and after 2 p.m. In the middle of the day, seek the shelter of a cabana, umbrella or the shade of a tree.
  • How to Protect Your Complexion: Consider getting a big, floppy straw or fabric hat to shield your entire face and some upper body as well.
  • Use Sunscreen Liberally: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Remember to reapply after swimming or sweating and don’t be stingy when applying. If you apply the sunscreen lightly, you’ll receive less protection.
  • Remember Your Sunglasses: Don’t leave your sunglasses behind. Excessive exposure to the sun’s rays can contribute to cataracts and other types of eye damage. You don’t have to wear very dark lenses to be protected and protective sunglasses don’t have to be expensive. Check sunglasses to determine the UV protection they advertise. And avoid low-quality children’s sunglasses for your kids as they probably offer very little protection.

Reverse Summer’s Aging

If you are already showing signs of aging, we can help you reverse those signs so you can show up at the beach or pool with smoother, more youthful skin and a more confident attitude. There are so many areas of the face and neck we can improve with Botox® treatments. From worry lines to laugh lines to crow’s fee and more, Botox® smooths and relaxes the signs of aging in a dozen facial and neck areas prone to wrinkling.

Fillers in key areas of the face also offer a boost to one’s youthful appearance. These gel-like substances injected into exactly the right locations plump up areas, smooth lines or creases and improve facial contours.
